Tens Therapy

TENS therapy refers to a transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) unit that is a device that sends small electrical currents to targeted body parts. This is widely used to relieve pain anywhere in the body. TENS therapy subdues hyperalgesia, which is a high sensitivity to pain while sending the electrical pulses through the skin. The pain may be located anywhere on the body.

If you are experiencing the some of the pains like the following, TENS therapy can help:

  • Migraines
  • Nerve Pain
  • Joint Pain
  • Muscle Pain

How Can TENS therapy help me?
Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation is considered highly effective in controlling pain. It can reduce the feelings of pain and prevent them from coming back in the future. If you are experiencing pain on an ongoing basis due to bursitis, arthritis, tendonitis, surgery or even headaches, TENS therapy is definitely a route you can opt to take. Some people experience permanent pain relief after a few sessions.

How does TENS therapy work?
TENS units are extremely safe and effective. They use electrodes to pass the current through the body. The electrodes are adhesive pads which are simply placed on the area of the pain to control the flow of the electric current and direct it to the affected area. The intensity of these currents can be controlled depending on the sensitivity of the individual. Most sessions with a TENS unit last less than 15 minutes and can be administered as often as needed.

How long does it take for treatment to start showing results?
The results of the treatment are evident almost immediately. Although repeat sessions might be required, the pain begins to be disrupted as soon as the device is turned on. The electrical current controls abnormally excited nerves and release endorphins, providing relief to the patient.
